The City of Grand Junction seeks a creative, team-oriented professional engineer to help implement the City's diverse capital improvement program. As an engineer with the City you have the opportunity to design and oversee construction work on a wide variety of projects including wastewater, water, storm, streets, bridges, bike paths, as well as municipal buildings such as fire stations and parks. We have great collaborative relationships with CDOT, Mesa County, surrounding communities as well as the many utility companies and enjoy working closely with them on improving infrastructure for our community.
Situated halfway between Denver and Salt Lake City, Grand Junction provides easy access to a plethora of natural resources and stunning outdoor amenities. Grand Junction serves is a regional hub for eastern Utah and western Colorado. With a population of over 150,000 in Mesa County (65,000 within the City limits) we have many of the big town amenities without the big town stresses such as traffic congestion.
Grand Junction is set in awe-inspiring natural beauty and the dramatic red rock landscape of the Colorado National Monument. Outdoor adventures include hiking, camping or skiing on the Grand Mesa; hundreds of miles of world-class mountain biking trails such as the Kokopelli Trail, 18 Road system and Lunch Loops; incredible whitewater rafting on the Colorado River; and stunning golf courses whose green fairways are set against the craggy Redland desert. The area remains one of Colorado's largest food producers, including peaches, pears, cherries and corn. In the late 1970s and early 1980s the first grape vines were planted, and now is home to more than 20 wineries and is known as Colorado's Wine Country. World class mountain biking with a 10 minute bike ride or 5 minute drive of our office at the Lunch Loop Trailhead.

Under direction from the Public Works Director, duties include preparation of construction drawings, specifications, bid documents and cost estimates; procurement of bids for construction contracts, processing contract change orders and contractor pay requests; oversees construction inspection and quality assurance testing; coordinates schedules and activities of contractors and utility companies; prepares progress reports and project documentation; reviews plans, documents and reports for compliance with applicable standards and design criteria; prepares technical engineering studies and reports; performs special assignments including unscheduled or emergency projects; participates in the selection and management of private consultants; assists with scheduling and coordination of engineering technicians; coordinates engineering and construction activities with other City departments, divisions and outside agencies; investigates field problems affecting property owners, contractors and utility companies; responds to citizen inquiries and requests for service; performs other related duties as assigned.
